Dr. Ara Basmajian

Dr. Ara Basmajian (Hunter College) graduated from the State University of New York, Stony Brook, where he worked with Bernard Maskit. He is a very active researcher in the areas of hyperbolic manifolds, Riemann surfaces, Kleinian groups, Teichmuller theory, the geometry of discrete groups, and low-dimensional topology. Dr. Basmajian has given more than 50 invited talks and is a very gifted and entertaining speaker. He received the Outstanding Teaching Award from the Mathematics Graduate Student Organization twice while a Professor at the University of Oklahoma. He was also selected to serve as a National Lecturer for Sigma Xi.
